COACH MARY FANTONI
Mary Fantoni – From Peru, I grew up playing volleyball, training in private clubs with some of the top players in Peru that were a part of the Olympic team in 1988 and received a scholarship to play volleyball. I have been coaching for over 13 years now: Freedom Middle School, Assistant coach for Centennial and Independence High Schools, Head Coach for Centennial, as well as previously coaching at Tennessee Performance Volleyball, Club West, and High Performance Volleyball. I currently work with WCS as a Special Education Teacher’s Assistant. I believe in creating a positive and motivating environment where players can grow not just as athletes but as people too. I aim to help build confidence in the team as well as the individual. I feel like my personal experience as a coach, parent, and player gives me the tools necessary to build the self-confidence needed to compete and love the sport of volleyball!
JV1 COACH KIM TUSING
Kim Tusing: This is my first year coaching at Independence – I love the young ladies and the supportive parents! I graduated from University of Phoenix with a Master in Computer Science. I have worked for Mars Inc. for the past 36 years. I have coached several sports for 20+ years with volleyball being my main focus.
JV2 COACH LAY CHANTHALASY
Lay Chanthalasy: This is my 1st year coaching at Independence and excited to be part of this school program. I studied at MTSU then graduated from Nossi College of Art. During my college years, I played intramural volleyball indoor but mostly sand volleyball for many years. I am excited to collaborate with the other amazing coaches on the staff to help our girls volleyball players grow each and every day.
